#RightmoveHygiene

Every year Rightmove points to its traffic to justify the next price rise on agents.

Every open tab and every raw link you share is you handing them that traffic, for free. Practicing good Rightmove hygiene means closing that loop — five small habits, none of them asking you to leave Rightmove or give up a listing.

The Rightmove Hygiene Checklist

01

Edit the address bar before sharing the link.

Delete htm from rightmove and hit enter — the buyer sees the same property, Rightmove doesn’t see the click.

02

Log out of Rightmove when you’re not actively using it.

A logged-in tab left open all day isn’t "just habit" — it’s a free data point for their next pricing review.

03

Uninstall the Rightmove app from your personal phone.

If you wouldn’t check a competitor’s app for fun, don’t check theirs either.

04

Stop sharing Rightmove listings on your personal social media.

Share your own site’s link instead — same property, same buyer, none of the traffic credit.

05

Spread the word.

Tell one other agent. Hygiene spreads one habit at a time — it’s how this succeeds where formal membership drives stalled.

Practicing all five? Say so — #RightmoveHygiene.

Save this, post it, print it for the office noticeboard — whatever gets it in front of one more agent.

Why bother

Portal fees average 7.2% of an agent's monthly commission, rising to 13.5% in Glasgow. In April 2026, agents and developers filed a £1.5bn claim against Rightmove at the Competition Appeal Tribunal over exactly this, backed by more than 250 agencies — Rightmove disputes the claim. None of that changes on its own. It changes when the traffic Rightmove points to as justification stops growing quite so easily.

Past campaigns asked agents to leave Rightmove entirely, all at once — a full boycott, a formal membership drive. They mostly stalled, because no single agency can afford to go first while buyer search is still concentrated on the portal. Rightmove Hygiene doesn't ask that. It asks you to stop being the free supply chain for the traffic that justifies your own fee increase — one habit, five minutes, no listing given up.
