I deleted three letters from a URL and it landed on my own agent's website

I’ve written before about the flat I’m selling on Wake Green Park in Moseley, Birmingham — one bed, offers in the region of £82,000, listed on Rightmove like every other flat in the country. What I hadn’t shown anyone yet is the actual trick, done on that actual listing, because it’s easier to believe on video than in a paragraph.

Here’s what’s happening in that clip, in case the pace goes past too fast. It’s my own listing on www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/88101825. I select the address bar and delete three letters — h, t, m — from rightmove. What’s left, typed straight back in, is www.rigove.co.uk/properties/88101825. Hit enter, and it resolves to a real page — not a 404, not a parody site, a working page for the exact same property. From there, one more click lands on oulsnam.net, my actual agent’s actual website, listing my actual flat, at a URL Rightmove itself will not show you.

That’s not a party trick bolted onto the product. It is the product, and the name says so outright once you notice it: rightmove minus h, t, m is rigove. I didn’t pick that name because it sounded good next to Rightmove’s. I picked it because the spelling itself is the instruction — the thing you’d do with your hands if nobody had built a button for it.

The reason a button needed building at all is the thing I covered in the technical-guidelines post: Rightmove’s own rules ban agents from linking off-platform, so oulsnam.net sits exactly zero clicks away from my listing in the sense that matters — it’s right there, it’s just not allowed to be a link. The address-bar edit is a workaround for a rule, not a hack on a website. Rigove just does the lookup so you don’t have to retype three deleted letters and hope.

I’m not claiming this fixes the fee structure, or that it’s a big deal — it’s one flat, and I said as much last time. But watching the same listing I’m personally waiting on sell resolve to my own agent’s page, live, in one edit, was the moment this stopped being a spec and started being a thing I’d actually use while house-hunting. Try it on whatever Rightmove tab you already have open — the address bar, or the paste-a-link box if editing URLs by hand isn’t your idea of fun.
